Sunburst Chemicals Launches Complete Solid Green Foodservice Sanitation Program
Environmentally responsible cleaning solution actively promotes greener, healthier, safer and more cost effective cleaning through innovative detergent formulations and packaging
MINNEAPOLIS, MN Sunburst Chemicals introduces the Solid Green Foodservice Program. Specifically formulated for use in restaurant, healthcare and education facilities, the Solid Green Foodservice Program is a complete foodservice sanitation solution with dish machine, silverware presoak, janitorial, 3-bin sink and drain maintenance components. All products are rapidly biodegradable and safe for the environment. The program also includes a number of innovative dispensing options to meet specific application requirements.
"The Sunburst Solid Green Foodservice Program delivers the best, greenest, and most cost effective cleaning through state-of-the-art detergent technology delivered as 100% pure concentrates. With this program users are paying for pure, green cleaning power -not water or fillers," says Pat Laughlin, Senior Vice President, Sunburst Chemicals.
Traditional, and even some 'green,' machine detergents and other products contain up to 7.2% phosphorous which can be harmful to ponds and lakes, but Sunburst's Solid Green Foodservice alternatives contain 0% phosphorous. Some cleaning products may contain a carcinogen known as Trisodium NTA that can be potentially harmful to humans, and some detergents contain an aquatic toxin called nonyl-phenol ethoxylate; the Sunburst Solid Green options contain none of these potentially harmful chemicals.
Not only does a 100% solid concentrate deliver the best cleaning -the program also delivers several attributes of "Best Practices" for green cleaning. It reduces container size to lower plastic consumption, eliminates chemical residue to reduce the amount of chemicals that end up in a landfill, and requires no rinsing to reduce wasted water and to keep residual chemicals from going down the drain. Solids maximize health and safety because in their natural state they cannot be spilled, splashed or mixed by hand, significantly reducing the risk of employee contact with chemical concentrates.
Solids also increase operation efficiencies and reduce energy usage by:
- Reducing fuel consumption for freight and delivery -concentrated products and packaging takes up less space, requiring fewer trucks for shipment
- Reducing heat required for transport and storage -solids don’t freeze or thaw
- Reducing utility costs through product application, training and consultations
"Although chemical costs will typically account for a relatively small percentage of the total budget of a foodservice operation, the value of Sunburst's 'total approach' to its programs can help reduce costs in other areas. Our goal is not only to provide the most effective and environmentally responsible cleaning solutions, but to help our customers reduce overall cleaning costs," says Laughlin.

Sunburst works hand in hand with customers to provide a top-to-bottom review of overall operations to help achieve a total value solution. Chemical cost is generally small compared to the total cost of sanitation, so by providing a "total approach" to each customer's operation, things like labor, utility costs, repairs and injuries can be greatly reduced. Sunburst adds value for its customers by understanding key elements of their operation, empowering them to reduce total operating costs.
